National Child Day 2020
National Child Day is important to us at Kids Kottage. It isn’t just a day we commemorate one day of the year. It is what our organization bases all of our values on. It truly is why we exist.
November 20th, is National Child Day in Canada, and is celebrated to commemorate the commitment that all children are treated with dignity and respect, they have a voice, they are protected from harm and are to be provided their basic needs. They are to be given the opportunity to thrive as citizens.
We aren't the only ones celebrating! We have received messages from Members of Parliament, the Edmonton Mayor and City Councilors, and other influential leaders within the community expressing what this day means to them. Watch this video.
A Letter from the Desk of Janine Fraser
Executive Director of Kids Kottage Foundation
Hello, and Happy International Day of the Child!
Thank you for celebrating with us today and to join us in commemorating a collective commitment for the safety of all infants and children. Recognizing all infants and children have a voice, they are treated with dignity and respect, they are protected from harm and their human rights are upheld. They are given the right to thrive as citizens.
International Day of the Child is important to us at Kids Kottage, It is not just a day we commemorate one day of the year. It is at a visceral level for us, what our organization bases all our values on. It is why we exist.
All infants and children deserve to have their human rights preserved. They deserve to be safe, they deserve to have shelter, they deserve to be fed, they deserve to be nurtured and know that they are valued.
So many in our families in our community have been drastically impacted by COVID 19, they need us now more than ever. Infants and children are often the hidden victims when a family is in crisis.
Just as the families turn to us for support and intervention we rely on the support of our community. To enable us to continue to keep our doors open, bed available for infants and children, continue to work with the families to ensure their needs are met, which in turns means the children’s will continue to stay resilient members of our community.
With the heightened demand for Kids Kottage comes a greater need of support from our community, to continue to preserve the rights of infants and children.
Together we can build a stronger and more resilient future. Here at Kids Kottage we witness every day the strengthening of our most vulnerable.
Thank you for all the received message from Members of Parliament, Government of Alberta, Minister Schulz, our Mayor Don Iveson, City Councillors, and our supporters, expressing what this day means to them.
Take good care and stay well.
Sincerely,
Janine Fraser
